THE RECEIPTS MAP

The conspiracy chart's opposite. Same subject matter, same density, inverted rules — because the answer to a bad map is a better map, not a shrug.

The five rules this map obeys 1. Every node carries its receipt — how we know, not just what happened.
2. Every line states its relationship. The conspiracy chart's fatal trick is the unlabeled line, which lets a documented transaction and a pure invention look identical. Here, if a connection can't say what it means, it doesn't get drawn.
3. Evidence tier is always visible and never blended.
4. Fabrications are included on purpose, labeled, with the debunk attached — that's the dose.
5. Real entries have endings: a hearing, a ruling, a reform. Conspiracy theories never end. Real conspiracies get adjudicated.
DOCUMENTED · 20
Declassified records, court rulings, or congressional investigation. You can read the paper.
PARTLY TRUE / OVERSTATED · 2
A real core with a popular exaggeration attached. Know exactly where the evidence stops.
FABRICATED · 6
Investigated and found false, or forged outright. Included deliberately, with the debunk attached.
DOCUMENTED

MK-ULTRA

1953–1973
What happened

CIA program testing drugs (notably LSD), hypnosis and sensory deprivation for interrogation and behavior control — including on unwitting subjects.

The receipt — how we know

CIA director Helms ordered the files destroyed in 1973, but ~20,000 documents survived misfiled in a financial records depot and were released under a 1977 FOIA request. Investigated by the Church Committee and the Rockefeller Commission (1975); Senate hearings again in 1977.

How it ended

Program terminated; 1977 Senate joint hearing; later settlements to victims and families.

COINTELPRO

1956–1971
What happened

FBI counterintelligence program that surveilled, infiltrated, discredited and disrupted domestic political groups — civil rights organizations, the Black Panthers, antiwar and feminist groups.

The receipt — how we know

Exposed when activists burgled the FBI office in Media, Pennsylvania in March 1971 and mailed the stolen files to journalists. Confirmed and expanded by the Church Committee (1975–76).

How it ended

Formally ended 1971; the Church Committee's findings produced FISA and lasting oversight structures.

Operation Northwoods

1962
What happened

Joint Chiefs of Staff proposal to stage false-flag attacks — including fabricated terrorism against Americans — to manufacture a pretext for war with Cuba.

The receipt — how we know

The signed proposal document was declassified in 1997 under the JFK Assassination Records Collection Act and is publicly readable.

How it ended

REJECTED by SecDef McNamara and the Kennedy administration. It was proposed and refused — that distinction is the whole lesson.

Gulf of Tonkin

1964
What happened

The second reported North Vietnamese attack — used to pass the resolution that escalated the Vietnam War — did not occur.

The receipt — how we know

NSA historian Robert Hanyok's internal study concluded signals intelligence was misrepresented; the NSA declassified it in 2005 after press pressure.

How it ended

Resolution repealed 1971; the episode is now standard curriculum.

Tuskegee Syphilis Study

1932–1972
What happened

US Public Health Service studied untreated syphilis in ~400 Black men, deceiving them about their diagnosis and withholding penicillin even after it became the standard cure in the late 1940s.

The receipt — how we know

Whistleblower Peter Buxtun brought it to the press; Jean Heller's AP story ran in July 1972. Extensive federal records exist.

How it ended

Terminated 1972; $10M settlement; produced the Belmont Report and modern IRB / informed-consent law. Presidential apology 1997.

Guatemala STD Experiments

1946–1948
What happened

US researchers deliberately infected Guatemalan prisoners, soldiers and psychiatric patients with syphilis and gonorrhea without consent.

The receipt — how we know

Uncovered in archives by historian Susan Reverby and made public in 2010.

How it ended

Formal US apology in 2010; Presidential Commission investigation.

Human Radiation Experiments

1944–1974
What happened

Thousands of Americans — including hospital patients and disabled children — were exposed to radiation or injected with plutonium without meaningful consent.

The receipt — how we know

Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments, chartered 1994, final report 1995, based on declassified federal records.

How it ended

Public report, apology, and compensation framework.

Operation Paperclip

1945–1959
What happened

US recruited German scientists — some with Nazi party ties and complicity in slave labor — sanitizing records to bring them into American programs.

The receipt — how we know

Declassified military intelligence records; extensive National Archives holdings.

How it ended

Program wound down; later DOJ Office of Special Investigations prosecuted and denaturalized some participants.

Operation Gladio

1950s–1990
What happened

NATO-linked clandestine 'stay-behind' paramilitary networks in Western Europe, kept secret from most elected governments.

The receipt — how we know

Revealed publicly by Italian PM Giulio Andreotti in 1990; investigated by an Italian parliamentary commission; European Parliament resolution followed.

How it ended

Networks disclosed and dismantled; parliamentary inquiries published.

Iran-Contra

1985–1987
What happened

Executive officials secretly sold arms to Iran and diverted proceeds to fund Nicaraguan Contras, circumventing an explicit congressional prohibition.

The receipt — how we know

Tower Commission report, joint congressional hearings, and an independent counsel investigation — all public.

How it ended

Multiple convictions (several later pardoned); statutory reforms.

Watergate

1972–1974
What happened

A break-in at Democratic headquarters and the subsequent cover-up run from the White House.

The receipt — how we know

The President's own tape recordings, subpoenaed and released after United States v. Nixon (1974).

How it ended

Resignation of a president; dozens of convictions. The system caught it.

The Tobacco Conspiracy

1953–2006
What happened

Cigarette makers coordinated for decades to manufacture doubt about cancer risk while their own scientists confirmed it, and marketed to minors.

The receipt — how we know

Millions of pages of internal industry documents released through litigation (now the Truth Tobacco Industry Documents archive). In United States v. Philip Morris (2006), Judge Gladys Kessler ruled the companies had engaged in a decades-long fraudulent enterprise under RICO.

How it ended

1998 Master Settlement Agreement; federal RICO ruling; mandated corrective statements.

This is the best answer to 'a conspiracy that big couldn't stay secret.' It was that big, it did stay secret for decades — and paper is exactly how it came out.

Fossil Fuel Climate Knowledge

1977–present
What happened

Exxon's own scientists accurately projected global warming from CO2 while the company publicly funded doubt about the science.

The receipt — how we know

Internal documents surfaced by InsideClimate News and the LA Times (2015); a 2023 peer-reviewed analysis in Science by Supran, Rahmstorf and Oreskes found the internal projections were strikingly accurate.

How it ended

Ongoing state litigation and congressional investigation.

Leaded Gasoline

1920s–1980s
What happened

Industry suppressed and attacked research on lead's neurotoxicity for decades to protect tetraethyl lead in fuel.

The receipt — how we know

Geochemist Clair Patterson's measurements and the documented industry campaign against him; public health record.

How it ended

Phased out; blood lead levels fell sharply — one of the clearest public-health wins on record.

Purdue Pharma / OxyContin

1996–2020
What happened

Purdue misrepresented OxyContin's addiction risk to doctors and regulators while aggressively expanding prescribing.

The receipt — how we know

Guilty pleas in 2007 and again in 2020; internal documents and DOJ filings.

How it ended

Criminal pleas, multibillion-dollar settlements, bankruptcy proceedings.

Mass Surveillance Programs

2001–2013 revealed
What happened

Bulk collection of telephone metadata and internet data on a scale officials had publicly denied.

The receipt — how we know

Primary NSA documents disclosed by Edward Snowden in 2013; a federal appeals court later ruled the bulk phone metadata program unlawful.

How it ended

USA FREEDOM Act (2015) ended bulk telephony metadata collection.

In March 2013 the Director of National Intelligence told the Senate the NSA did 'not wittingly' collect data on millions of Americans. Three months later the documents showed otherwise. This is what a real cover-up looks like when it breaks: specific, dated, documented.

Cambridge Analytica

2014–2018
What happened

Personal data from tens of millions of Facebook profiles harvested without consent and used for political targeting.

The receipt — how we know

Whistleblower testimony, UK ICO investigation, US FTC action.

How it ended

Company folded; record FTC penalty against Facebook (2019).

Volkswagen Defeat Devices

2008–2015
What happened

VW installed software to detect emissions tests and cheat them, while cars polluted far more in real driving.

The receipt — how we know

Discovered by independent researchers at West Virginia University; admitted to the EPA in 2015.

How it ended

Criminal pleas, executives convicted, ~$30B in penalties.

US Forced Sterilization

1907–1970s
What happened

Tens of thousands of Americans, disproportionately poor, disabled, Black and Indigenous, were sterilized without meaningful consent under state eugenics laws.

The receipt — how we know

State statutes, program records, and the Supreme Court's own ruling in Buck v. Bell (1927) upholding the practice.

How it ended

Laws repealed; multiple state apologies and compensation programs.

Worth sitting with: the conspiracy charts point at eugenics as a hidden plot. It wasn't hidden. It was law, published in the open, and blessed by the Supreme Court.

FIFA Corruption

1991–2015
What happened

Decades of racketeering and bribery in international football governance.

The receipt — how we know

US DOJ indictments (2015), guilty pleas, Swiss investigations.

How it ended

Dozens charged; leadership removed.

PARTLY TRUE / OVERSTATED

Operation Mockingbird

1950s–1970s
What happened

Claimed CIA program to control the American press.

The receipt — how we know

REAL CORE: the Church Committee documented that the CIA maintained relationships with journalists and media assets, and had used them. OVERSTATED: the specific codename 'Mockingbird' as a formal, sweeping press-control program is not well supported by primary documents; the popular version outruns the record.

How it ended

CIA announced restrictions on using accredited US journalists (1976).

Textbook example of a documented kernel wearing a fabricated shell. Cite the Church Committee findings, not the myth.

'MK-ULTRA never ended'

claim
What happened

The claim that mind-control programs continue today under new names.

The receipt — how we know

REAL CORE: MK-ULTRA happened and its records were largely destroyed, so the archive is genuinely incomplete. WHERE IT STOPS: destroyed records are an absence of evidence, not evidence of continuation. Any continuation claim needs its own documents — and none have surfaced.

How it ended

Open question by construction — which is exactly why it's a favorite.

FABRICATED

Protocols of the Elders of Zion

1903 →
What happened

Forged text purporting to be a Jewish plan for world domination. The ancestor of nearly every modern 'global cabal' narrative.

The receipt — how we know

The Times of London demonstrated in 1921 that it was plagiarized from Maurice Joly's 1864 satire 'Dialogue in Hell Between Machiavelli and Montesquieu' — a book about Napoleon III with nothing to do with Jewish people. Long passages match near-verbatim.

How it ended

Proven a forgery over a century ago; still in circulation. Used to justify pogroms and the Holocaust.

When a chart's arrows all terminate at one ethnic group or one banking dynasty, this is the story it is wearing.

Pizzagate

2016
What happened

Claim that a DC restaurant hosted a child-trafficking ring tied to political figures.

The receipt — how we know

No evidence of any kind; the restaurant has no basement. Investigated and rejected by police and journalists.

How it ended

A man fired a rifle inside the restaurant in December 2016 and was imprisoned. Real bullets, invented plot.

Adrenochrome Harvesting

modern
What happened

Claim that elites harvest a compound from terrified children for youth.

The receipt — how we know

Adrenochrome is a real, unremarkable oxidation product of adrenaline, synthesizable cheaply; it has no such properties and no such trade exists. The narrative structure is a direct modern restatement of medieval blood libel.

How it ended

No case, no evidence, ever.

The Khazar Thesis (as deployed)

modern usage
What happened

Argument that modern Jews descend from Khazar converts and are therefore not 'really' Jewish.

The receipt — how we know

Deployed to delegitimize Jewish identity and claims; population-genetics research does not support the sweeping version, and the political use is the point rather than the history.

How it ended

A delegitimization trope, not a research finding.

Vaccines Cause Autism

1998–2010
What happened

Claim originating in a 1998 Lancet paper by Andrew Wakefield.

The receipt — how we know

The paper was fully retracted by The Lancet in 2010; investigation found the data manipulated and undisclosed financial conflicts. Wakefield was struck off the UK medical register. Enormous subsequent studies find no link.

How it ended

Retracted, license revoked, replicated to death. Measles returned.

Moon Landing Hoax

1969 →
What happened

Claim the Apollo landings were staged.

The receipt — how we know

Retroreflectors left on the surface are still ranged by laser from Earth today by independent observatories worldwide; hundreds of kilograms of lunar samples have been studied internationally; later orbiters photographed the hardware and tracks.

How it ended

Independently verifiable by anyone with a laser and a telescope, including nations that had every incentive to expose a fake.

If you take one thing from this page: the question was never “could powerful people do something terrible in secret?” — they demonstrably do, repeatedly, and it's on this page. The question is always what kind of evidence exists.
